Founded in 1953, Beijing Institute of Education is an adult normal school sponsored by the People's Government of Beijing Municipality and directly managed by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission.

The institute has four campuses in Beijing, which are located in Huangsi, Wenxingjie, Huanghuamen and Zhongzhoulu respectively. It has 10 teaching and research institutions including Education Management, Humanities and Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Foreign Languages, Sports, Art, Information Technology, Talent Research, Party Building in Basic Education and etc.

The institute provides a wealth of Chinese language and culture study courses to international students from France, Australia, Cyprus and other countries. And it actively explores ways to promote Chinese in countries and regions along the Belt and Road. Approved by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) in 2013, the institute and University of Cyprus co-founded one Confucius Institute. At present, Beijing Institute of Education has formed a cooperation and exchange pattern which involves multiple countries, covers multiple fields, channels and forms, as well as emphasizes quality and actual effect. Therefore, the institute has become the major battlefield and channel for the internationalization of the education in Beijing, as well as the international cooperation and exchanges of the training of backbone teachers.
