Recently, Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform approved four projects: Beijing Great Wall Forest Trail (phase I of the Yanqing section), Xishan Mountain-hiking Forest Trail (Mentougou section), Xishan Mountain-hiking Forest Trail (Fangshan section), and Miyun District's Colorful Southern Hills Forest Trail. With a total length of about 402 kilometers, these four projects will connect 33 cultural tourism attractions and 24 cultural relics protection units. The construction of these projects is scheduled to commence in the first half of 2025 and be completed in 2026.
These projects will focus on constructing additional facilities such as parking lots to improve accessibility and convenience for tourists. In addition, a reasonable quantity of viewing platforms and signs for different destinations will be added based on the local conditions to meet the needs of tourists and improve the comfort of the trails.
Notably, while serving for leisure and entertainment in daily life, these forest trails can also be used as emergency exits and rescue channels. By serving both the ordinary and emergent situations, they can help enhance the capacity of the areas along the trails to provide emergency services.
