Recently, a long-tailed goral was spotted in the Longmen Gorge Scenic Area. Under China's Class-II state protection, the species is a rare mountain-dwelling mammal native to the country and has highly specific habitat requirements. The presence of this animal is the clearest sign of continued ecological improvement in Longmen Gorge.

Nestled in western Mentougou, the Longmen Gorge Scenic Area is a renowned pristine canyon in western Beijing. Surrounded by mountains and covered in dense vegetation, it preserves an intact native mountain ecosystem, which provides a safe and suitable habitat for wild animals.
