Recently, a large flock of common cranes arrived at Yeya Lake National Wetland Park in Yanqing District, refueling for their northward journey.
As the only major international wetland in Beijing, Yeya Lake National Wetland Park is also the capital city's largest, most biologically diverse wetland reserve with the most complete ecosystem. As a crucial part of the East Asian–Australasian Flyway for migratory birds, it serves as a crucial stopover site, a refueling hub, and also a sanctuary in the global migratory network. Each spring, thousands of common cranes will choose to rest here, with up to nearly 5,000 of them spotted, making this place one of the most concentrated and stable areas for observing common cranes in Beijing and even in northern China.

At Kunming Lake in the Summer Palace, dozens of whooper swans made an appearance. As one of Beijing's important water sources, the Summer Palace has provided a haven for wildlife through years of persistent efforts in water source ecological protection and measures such as postponing the start of boat services each spring.
