On April 3, the 2023 "Bright Springtime" spring flowers and tulip season officially began at Zhongshan Park (hereinafter referred to as the "Park") in Beijing. This year, the Park is highlighting elements of traditional Chinese culture through specially designed patterns based on the shapes of bank swallow kites, ducks, and ripples, among other themes. Six themed scenic areas have also been carefully arranged, named "Chunse Ying Bin" (A Greeting from the Spring Scenery), "Huawu Zhi Chun" (Springtime in the Flower Beds), "Huifeng Hechang" (A Gentle Breeze), "Feng He Ri Nuan" (Calm Winds and Warm Sunshine), "Binfen Chunlin" (Colorful Spring Forest), and "Xiangyun Ruyi" (Blessings of the Auspicious Clouds).
In the "Huifeng Hechang" area outside Xitan Gate of the Park, tulips in various colors form colorful belts of petals, symbolizing the warm spring breeze that awakens all the earth's living things. Scarlet and pristine white tulips are arranged to form a swallow-like shape, representing local Beijing residents' unique memories of the spring and bringing a burst of vibrancy to the scenic area.
The "Huawu Zhi Chun" area in front of Tanghuawu Greenhouse merges purple, pink and pink-and-yellow tulips, which are arranged like ripples overlapping one another. Meanwhile, pastel yellow and white tulips are planted to form patterns of a mother duck and her three ducklings, as serene as if they were floating on a lake. The ducklings bring a delightful seasonal atmosphere to the Park, and the arrangements together form a lovely scene from a sea of flowers, giving every visitor a warm feeling.
A total of 40 tulip varieties from different tulip families and with different blooming periods will be displayed on a rolling basis as they bloom in the Binfen Chunlin area of the Yuyuan Garden. In addition to fringed tulip varieties with striking zigzag edges, such as the "Crystal Star", "Haiti", "Lion King" and "Burgundy Lace", visitors in the Binfen Chunlin area will also be able to see impressive double-flowered tulips named "Bianse Xiuqiu" (which literally means "color-changing embroidered ball"), which are being displayed in the Park for the first time. The colors of the "Bianse Xiuqiu" flowers change over time.
In order to make the flower-viewing experience as enjoyable as possible for visitors, Zhongshan Park has cultivated tulips with different blooming periods and a careful combination of colors. The Park has mixed its planting of flowers and meticulously managed blooming periods, as well as incorporating a variety of other methods, to bring nearly 200,000 world-famous tulips of 85 varieties to the public. The tulips are displayed along with other bulbous flowers, including wild daffodils and grape hyacinths, to give visitors a richly varied and highly enjoyable horticultural experience.
