Foreign nationals working in the administrative area of Beijing are eligible to enroll in the city's basic medical insurance for employees, according to applicable regulations on Beijing's basic medical insurance programs. Insurance contributions are jointly paid by the employer and the employee according to national regulations.

1. Foreign nationals who have obtained the "Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card" in Beijing but as of yet has no other basic medical insurance schem;
2. Spouses and minor children of Type A "Foreigner's Work Permit" holders who are not covered by any other basic medical insurance scheme.

Basic documents include the applicant's identity document ("Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card" or passport), a photo, and bank account information. Specific requirements may be confirmed with the authority in charge.
Documents Required in Different Conditions
1. Foreign nationals who have obtained the "Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card" in Beijing and have no basic medical insurance scheme must submit their passport, "Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card", and a letter of guarantee stating the absence of basic medical insurance coverage.
2. Spouses and minor children of Type A "Foreigner's Work Permit" holders who are not covered by any other basic medical insurance scheme must submit the "Foreigner's Work Permit", their identity documents, the marriage certificate, the birth certificate of each child, and a letter of guarantee stating the absence of basic medical insurance coverage.
Foreign students studying in Beijing should complete the insurance enrollment procedures at school. Other individuals should apply for insurance at the "Community Service Center" in their residential area.
Time for Enrollment
Foreign nationals may complete the insurance enrollment procedures at any time.
1. Enrollment within the prescribed period: Foreign nationals may enroll either during the designated annual enrollment period or within 90 days of becoming eligible for enrollment.
2. Foreign nationals may enroll outside the prescribed period.
Insurance Contributions
Contributions for medical insurance for residents in 2025 are as follows:
1. Urban and rural elderly: CNY 430 per person per year;
2. Students and children: CNY 405 per person per year;
3. Residents of working age: CNY 750 per person per year.

1. Out-of-pocket expenses within the coverage of basic medical insurance that exceed a specified threshold may qualify for reimbursement under the serious illness insurance program.
2. No individual accounts are established under the basic medical insurance for urban-rural residents. The contributory years of the basic medical insurance for urban-rural residents are not counted toward the contributory years of the basic medical insurance for urban employees.
3. Foreign nationals who were insured in the previous year and continue paying insurance contributions in the current year remain eligible for outpatient and emergency medical insurance benefits. Those who fail to continue paying insurance contributions are not eligible for these benefits. Foreign nationals who meet the enrollment conditions and complete enrollment and payment in the current year are deemed to have continuous coverage.
