News update! You can now park and charge your electric bike right outside some subway stations!

Recently, Beijing has been promoting its "park-and-charge" pilot program by upgrading the infrastructure around several subway stations, including Xi'erqi, Huixin Xijie Nankou, Gucheng and Babaoshan stations, to seamlessly integrate e-bike parking and charging services for commuters.

The retrofitting work outside Niujie Station has already been completed, adding more than 150 new parking slots, including 60 with charging capabilities, as well as five battery-swapping cabinets. Notably, the electricity rate remains at a flat, highly affordable 0.51 yuan per kilowatt-hour throughout the entire day.

This year, Beijing is accelerating the rollout of its "integrated park-and-charge" facilities at key rail transit hubs. Preliminary design or structural renovations are currently underway around several subway stations, including Nongda Nanlu, Xi'erqi, Baipenyao, Huangqu, Wangjing Dong (E), Huixin Xijie Nankou, Gucheng and Babaoshan stations.

Further afield, old residential communities and high-rise apartments also face the shortage of charging facilities for non-motorized vehicles. To meet this pressing demand, Chaoyang District has launched a pilot program in its Taiyanggong area, designating public spaces for parking, which are equipped with landscape-integrated charging facilities. In residential communities such as the Courtyard 48 of Shangjialou, and the North Zone of Taiyang Gongyuan, where there is an urgent need for parking and charging electric bicycles, public spaces have been repurposed for the installation of 70 electric bicycle charging connectors, with non-motor vehicle parking areas set.

In 2026, Chaoyang plans to select four rail transit hubs and transform them into "garden stations" by building greenery-shielded non-motorized vehicle parking zones. It is expected that 4,430 new parking spaces will be added this way.
