The Beijing Performing Arts Center (hereinafter referred to as the "Center") was recently awarded the 2025 International Architecture Award in the "Civic Centers" category.
Located in the northwestern part of the Central Green Forest Park in Tongzhou District, this Center was designed under the concept of "Cultural Granary", drawing inspiration from ancient granaries and canal sails. It consists of three separate buildings, containing four indoor theaters, namely an opera house, a concert hall, a playhouse, a small theater, and an outdoor theater. Its façade shows metal panels interwoven with glass curtain walls, evoking the imagery of an "unfolding stage curtain". At night, lighting and media projections enhance the distinctive theatrical atmosphere.
The Center was officially completed and opened at the end of 2023. It now serves as a major cultural exchange platform, hosting performances, public engagement activities, and international cultural cooperation events. Since its opening, it has become one of Beijing's most significant cultural landmarks.

Since 2004, the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, together with the European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and the Metropolitan Arts Press Ltd., has organized the International Architecture Awards as a way to honor the best, significant new buildings, landscape architecture, and planning projects designed and/or built around the world's leading architects, landscape architects, and urban planners practicing around the globe. The program pays tribute to new developments in design and underscores the directions and understanding of current cutting-edge processes consistent with today's design thinking.
