The new Giant Panda House at the Beijing Zoo is just about to open. Curious what it's going to look like? Let's go take a peek!

The new house is located on the east side of the existing Giant Panda House and covers 13,000 square meters, with a total floor area of 2,483.91 square meters. It includes four indoor exhibition areas, five indoor animal rooms, and five outdoor activity areas, all designed in accordance with the current care standards for giant pandas.

The design of the new house is based on the existing architecture and layout of the garden, incorporating new functions to improve visitor circulation between the old and new exhibition areas, and linking with the Asian Games Giant Panda House to form a cohesive whole area. The design also fully preserves the existing mature trees, ancient trees, and wisteria. Taking into account giant pandas' natural climbing habits, climbing structures have been installed in both indoor and outdoor exhibition areas, along with wading pools and misting systems to create a cool and comfortable environment for the pandas during scorching summer days. Meanwhile, the new house draws inspiration from the layout and design of classical Chinese gardens, using covered corridors to connect all areas and provide visitors with comfortable shaded pathways.

The design and construction of the new house strictly follow the Three-Star Green Building Standard, with building material selection guided by low-carbon and circular design principles. BIM (building information modeling) technology was also applied throughout the entire design process, creating a comprehensive digital record of the building to provide a solid foundation and support for smart operation and maintenance after completion.
