The UIPM 2026 Obstacle World Championships officially opened at Universal CityWalk Beijing on September 2.

The championships are organized by the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) and co-hosted by the Cycling and Fencing Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, the National Olympic Sports Centre, the Chinese Modern Pentathlon Association, and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports. BTG Sports, a subsidiary of Beijing Tourism Group (BTG), is the exclusive operator of the event. The championships kicked off on September 2 and will run until September 6.

The UIPM 2026 Obstacle World Championships feature five events: the 100m individual, 400m individual, 3km individual, 3km team, and 4×100m relay. The mixed 4×100m relay is a new addition to this year's program. The competition is divided into elite and age-group divisions. Athletes in the elite division compete as part of national or regional teams, while the age-group division is open to obstacle racing enthusiasts of all ages from around the world. The championships have also introduced U11 and U13 categories for the 100m and 3km events, creating more opportunities for younger athletes to compete on the world championship stage.

As the world's premier standalone obstacle racing event, the championships bring together athletes ranked among the world's top 50 and have drawn more than 1,000 competitors from nearly 50 countries and regions. Egyptian star Mohamed El Ashqar, the world record holder in the UIPM OCR 70m event, is competing at the Obstacle World Championships for the first time. Brothers Luke Beckstrand and Kai Beckstrand, who swept the top two spots in the men's 100m and 400m elite events at the previous championships, are also back in action. Polish star Katarzyna Jonaczyk, British contender Mila Stanzani, and a host of other top international athletes are also competing, adding further excitement to this year's event.
