The Palace Museum will present the special exhibition: Defining the Classics: A Journey to Tang and Song Calligraphy and Paintings at the Hall of Literary Brilliance (Wenhua Dian) from September 1 to November 1, 2026.

The exhibition will showcase 107 works of ancient Chinese calligraphy and paintings, as well as stele rubbings. Of these, 103 are from the Palace Museum's collection, while four are on loan from the Shanghai Museum, Shanxi Museum, and Henan Museum.

The exhibition will be presented in two phases. The first, running from September 1 to 27, will feature calligraphy and paintings from the Tang Dynasty and Five Dynasties period. The second, from September 30 to November 1, will focus on works from the Song Dynasty. Highlights include the Song-dynasty copy of Nymph of the Luo River (洛神赋图) by Eastern Jin painter Gu Kaizhi, Spring Excursion (游春图) by Sui-dynasty artist Zhan Ziqian, Emperor Taizong Receiving the Tibetan Envoy (步辇图) by Tang-dynasty painter Yan Liben, and semi-cursive script Zhang Haohao Poem (行书张好好诗) by Tang-dynasty poet Du Mu.

The exhibition does not require a separate ticket and will be open to visitors by reservation only. Visitors can make reservations through the Palace Museum's official WeChat mini-program.
