By November this year, the upgrading project for the greening landscape along the 65.3-kilometer 4th Ring Road will be completed, making Beijing home to the world's first uninterrupted, road-based floral ring.
Highlighting the extensive use of Chinese roses, the project involves a revamp of the median strips and green belts along the main and auxiliary roads. Flower boxes will be installed in the center of key bridges and hung along ramps and guardrails, to adorn the ring road with blooming flowers all year round.
The median strips will predominantly feature climbing Chinese rose varieties such as "Leonardo da Vinci" and "Parade". Elevated roads and bridge areas will highlight floribunda varieties like "Fairytale", "Beijing Red" and "Scarlet Bonica". Climbing and floribunda roses will also be added in green belts along the main and auxiliary roads to create a multilayered and colorful display, turning the 4th Ring Road into a gorgeous floral ring encircling the capital.
The upgrades to the East 4th Ring Road (Chaoyang Section) and West 4th Ring Road (Haidian Section) were finished last year. This summer, construction will continue on the Northeast and Southeast sections of the 4th Ring Road, with the full renovation of the Fengtai Section to kick off in June. When the project is completed, the entire 4th Ring Road will present an uninterrupted blooming floral landscape.
Chinese roses are now in full bloom across Beijing. Major roads such as the 2nd, 3rd and 4th ring roads, as well as parks and green spaces, have become ideal spots to enjoy their beauty. The optimal viewing period lasts from early May to mid-June.
