The Beijing Map Bookstore has recently launched the Beijing edition of its "Special Exhibition on Ancient City Maps" at its Baizhifang and Sanlihe branches. Featuring 18 reproductions of precious ancient maps of Beijing, the exhibition offers residents a new perspective on the city's history.
Structured around the succession of dynasties, the exhibition highlights the urban landscape of central Beijing during the Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as that of central Beiping (a historical name for Beijing) during the Republican era. It enables visitors to gain an intuitive understanding of how the city's layout evolved and how its functions changed over time, while also revealing the broader trajectory of Beijing's urban development through historical maps.
The exhibition will run through the end of May and is open to the public free of charge.
