China's railway pet transport service just got a major upgrade!
Previously, pets had to travel on the same trains with their owners. Now, a new, separate transport service for pets has been officially introduced — which breaks the previous restriction and allows your furry friend to get on a high-speed train without your company, meaning you don't need to buy your own ticket for that train. This new service makes pet travel more convenient and flexible.
Which pets are eligible?

This service is only available for healthy, domesticated cats and dogs that meet the following requirements:
Weight: ≤ 15 kg
Shoulder height: ≤ 40 cm
Body length: ≤ 52 cm
Ineligible ones:
Aggressive breeds, as well as sick, pregnant and very young pets
How are the pets kept safe during the trip?

Pets will be transported in professional pet express containers with good temperature control, oxygen supply, and ventilation. Staff conduct routine checks every two hours and can provide water when needed. It is worth mentioning that the designated pet storage area is completely separated from passenger carriages, ensuring full safety and comfort for the pets.
How to apply for separate transport?
Advance booking is required two to five days prior to travel via the WeChat mini-program of China Railway Express (中铁快运), and the full details of your pet shall be submitted at the time of reservation. Then, you should bring your own valid ID document, a valid animal quarantine certificate for the pet, and a railway-compliant pet carrier to the China Railway Express's service office at the designated high-speed railway station to complete the on-site procedures. Upon arrival at the destination, you can pick up the pet at the station's service office by presenting relevant documents.
The service is now available at over 120 high-speed railway stations and on more than 200 high-speed trains marked with the "pet" (宠) icon, covering major cities across China including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi'an, and Wuhan.
