The "Sailing along the Canal" water performance project is set within the Beijing Grand Canal Cultural Scenic Area in Tongzhou, and is a key initiative under the "Tongzhou on the Canal" tourism brand developed by the Beijing Municipal Administrative Center. The route is 3.5 kilometers long, with an estimated duration of about 50 minutes.

The project is themed around Grand Canal culture and historical goods-transportation (Caoyun) culture. It uses specialized passenger and performer boats, waterfront areas, and bridges along the route. Combined with lighting installations, shoreline stage performances, and on-board performances, it creates an immersive experience connecting water, boats, bridges and shores, telling the historical story of how various goods and cultures flowed and converged across southern and northern China via the canal.
