Residents are advised to  stay updated on upcoming forecasts and warnings, pay attention to travel  safety, and secure outdoor items vulnerable to hail damage.

How to stay safe when encountering a sudden hailstorm while driving?

When encountering hail, reduce your vehicle speed and turn on hazard warning lights and position lights.

Immediately  seek shelter in a safe location and avoid parking your car under  trees to prevent possible damage from falling branches or trees.

If  no appropriate shelter is available, position the critical  components—such as the engine compartment and passenger compartment—away  from the direction of the hailstorm to minimize direct impact on vital  parts of your vehicle.

If you park  your vehicle in open air during a hailstorm, remain inside the vehicle.  Occupants shall move to rear seats, if possible, and use cushioning  materials like car covers or seat cushions to cover the front and rear  windshields.

Does auto insurance cover hail damage?

Hail  damage is covered by auto insurance. As long as you have purchased  vehicle damage insurance, you can directly file claims for hail-related  losses. However, vehicles insured only with compulsory traffic liability  insurance are ineligible for such claims.

What is the process for filing a claim with the insurer if your vehicle is damaged?

Step  1: Report the claim to your insurer within 48 hours after the hailstorm  ends. Many insurers now offer a service called "quick photo-taking for  hail damage", which allows their clients to report  through uploading three photos of the damage.

Step 2: Record a panoramic video featuring the license plate, hail debris, and detailed damages to your vehicle.

Step  3: A damage assessment will be conducted. For any loss valued under CNY  10,000, some insurance companies offer on-site inspection waivers with  compensation paid within one hour. For severe damages, please go to an  insurer-endorsed repair shop for assessment.
