As the largest existing ancient ceremonial complex in China, it is renowned for its axial symmetry that conveys a sense of order. Landmark structures such as the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests and the Echo Wall reflect the profound depth of traditional Chinese ritual culture. It was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1998.
