On April 23, the 2025 Beijing Peony Cultural Festival officially opened and will run through mid-May. This year's festival features 17 themed exhibition areas, showcasing more than 800 peony species in nine colors and ten types.
A specially curated themed marketplace has been unveiled at Jingshan Park, featuring exhibition and sales areas for cultural souvenirs, food products and more that are inspired by peonies. DIY sessions featuring techniques that are recognized as intangible cultural heritage items, such as peony embroidery and filigree enamel art, will also be launched. Jingshan Park will also host live performances of traditional art forms listed as intangible cultural heritage items, such as ancient Chinese magic shows and other interactive ones.
During the festival, local flower markets, florists, stores of Freshippo, flower carts of the subway and other offline venues will collaborate with online platforms like the "Beijing Flowers" mini-program, Meituan, and JD.com to sell freshly-cut peonies to the public. Additionally, the festival is launching a "VR Cloud Flower Exhibition" through the "Beijing Flowers" digital industry platform, using virtual reality to recreate real-life views of various peony gardens.
