The International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) recently announced that Beijing has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2025-2028 Obstacle World Championships (OCR).

Previously, the UIPM decided to replace the equestrian event with the obstacle event at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. This groundbreaking World Championship series will launch in October this year, marking UIPM's first independent organization of obstacle racing events.

The competitions will take place at the venues of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, which have undergone modernized upgrades to provide world-class facilities for athletes. Hundreds of obstacle racing and modern pentathlon athletes from around the world are expected to gather in Beijing to compete on 100-meter, 400-meter, and 3-kilometer courses.

UIPM President Rob Stull OLY stated that the event will offer substantial prize money to attract world-class athletes. He said, "The creation of the UIPM OCR marks a crucial step in integrating this popular urban sport into the Olympic movement. No city is more fitting than Beijing to host this groundbreaking competition."
