From November 18 to 19, the 2024 China International Friendship Cities Conference was held in Kunming, Yunnan Province. At the conference, Beijing was given the "Outstanding Contribution Award for International Friendship Cities", while Hanoi, a sister city of Beijing in Vietnam, was honored with the "Excellent Partner Award for Friendly Cities with China".

The conference, themed "Win-Win Cooperation, Shared Future", brought together over 700 guests, including representatives from 125 cities, 63 local governments, and friendly organizations from 66 provinces and states in 41 countries across five continents, as well as experts, scholars, businesses, and media representatives.

Beijing currently has 268 international friendship cities and exchange cities spanning all five continents. Hanoi, one of Beijing's most important sister cities in Southeast Asia, officially established a friendship city relationship with Beijing in October 1994.
