Recently, the Blue Book of Beijing's Social Sciences (2024) was released by the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, summarizing the city's development in domains such as the digital economy, social governance, and public services. Based on an analysis of various authoritative rankings in both China and abroad, the Blue Book concluded that Beijing excels in finance, technology, and urban dynamism among the world's cities.
Beijing ranked fifth among 156 global cities in Kearney's 2023 Global Cities Report, reflecting its overall advancement in globalization across multiple dimensions such as commerce, culture, and politics. Additionally, the Global Financial Centres Index showed that, as one of the top 20 global financial centres, Beijing has strong momentum in fintech. Besides, Beijing has held the top position in the Nature Index Science Cities for consecutive years and is one of the top five Science and Technology Clusters in WIPO's Global Innovation Index 2023.
The Global Dynamic City Index, calculated by the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design, shows that Beijing ranks fifth among the World's Most Dynamic Cities and first in the dimension of global production and service networks.
The Blue Book also evaluated Beijing's progress in building itself into a benchmark city for the digital economy. In 2024, Beijing is moving steadily toward optimal level in terms of major indexes, and in the three sub-indexes of data factor allocation, digital industry leadership, and digital innovation capacity and resources, it ranks second or third globally, with solid performance.
