Around 10,000 Runners Participate in Beijing MC Marathon with a Kenyan Runner Winning Men's Group

At 8:00 on April 9, the 2023 Beijing MC Marathon kicked off at Sikongfenshu Street, Tongzhou District. Nearly 10,000 runners from home and abroad joined the event. In the end, Kenyan runner Kiprotich Kirui claimed the men's group title with a time of 2:18:30, and Chinese runner Zhao Yaxin won the women's group with a time of 2:55:09. 

This year's Beijing MC Marathon, as the first full marathon held in Beijing in 2023, was co-hosted by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports, Tongzhou District People's Government of Beijing Municipality, and Beijing State-owned Assets Management Co., Ltd., and accredited by the Chinese Athletics Association.

After fierce competition, Kenyan runners Kiprotich Kirui and Anthony Kiplangat Maritim won the first and third place respectively, and Chinese runner Li Yan won the second place with a time of 2:19:25 in the men's race. "It is my first time running the Beijing MC Marathon," Li said, "The environment and ambience are fantastic, especially the thoughtful services during the race, helping me achieve good results." 

The marathon starts in front of the Randeng Pagoda Scenic Spot in the north area of the Grand Canal Cultural Tourism Scenic Spot and ends at the Canal Olympic Sports Park in the central area of the Grand Canal Cultural Tourism Scenic Spot. Featuring the Grand Canal cultural belt, it connects major attractions such as the Randeng Pagoda, Tonghui River, Yunchaojian River, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, Central Green Forest Park, Grand Canal Forest Park, and Canal Olympic Sports Park.

Around 10,000 runners from 12 countries including Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Kenya, and Ethiopia, and regions containing China's Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, participated in the race, in addition to a total of 220 referees, 2,800 security personnel and 2,460 volunteers recruited by the Organizing Committee. 17 medical stations were set up along the route, with 34 ambulances and around 100 AED devices standing by. In the meantime, the Organizing Committee opened green rescue paths to three hospitals, namely Beijing Luhe Hospital, Beijing Friendship Hospital (Tongzhou branch), and Dongzhimen Hospital (Tongzhou branch), to ensure the safety of runners.
