According to statistics from Beijing Customs, Beijing's total imports and exports reached 2.11 trillion yuan in the first eight months of the year. Exports amounted to 406.23 billion yuan, marking a record high for the same period, up 1.7 percent.
During the first eight months, Beijing's trade with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative amounted to 1.26 trillion yuan, accounting for 59.8 percent of the region's total imports and exports. Among its major partners, trade with the European Union and ASEAN reached 213.67 billion yuan and 139.91 billion yuan, respectively.
In response to the evolving landscape of foreign trade, Beijing's open platforms are rapidly advancing. In the first eight months, exports from the Beijing Free Trade Zone, Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (E-Town), Zhongguancun National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone, and Tianzhu Comprehensive Bonded Zone increased by 2.2 percent, 19.1 percent, 3.7 percent, and 34.4 percent, respectively.
In addition, Beijing's exports to Latin America, Africa, and the five Central Asian countries increased by 15.2 percent, 19.5 percent, and 84.5 percent, respectively, with their combined share of Beijing's total exports rising to 17.4 percent.
