Yongding Building

Mentougou District is located in the southwest of Beijing, at 115°25′00″ - 116°10′07″E, and 39°48′34″ - 40°10′37″N. It is about 62 kilometers long from east to west and 34 kilometers wide from north to south, with a total area of 1,455 square kilometers. It is adjacent to Haidian District and Shijingshan District in the east, Fangshan District and Fengtai District in the south, Zhuolu County and Laishui County of Hebei Province in the west and Changping District and Huailai County of Hebei Province in the north. Situated in a range of the Taihang Mountains, it features precipitous topography. "Looking eastward to the capital and westward to the vast desert", it has been of strategic importance since ancient times.

Demographics: By the end of 2018, the permanent resident population of the district was 331,000, marking an increase of 9,000 from the previous year. The total number of registered households was 121,146, with the total population of 250,864, of whom 207,646 were non-agricultural and 43,218 were agricultural. Among the registered population, there were 2,434 births and 2,196 deaths throughout the year. The birth rate was 9.74 ‰, the mortality rate was 8.78 ‰, and the natural growth rate was 0.95 ‰.

Income and expenditure of urban and rural residents: In 2018, the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents in the district was CNY49,298yuan, showing an increase of 7.4% over the previous year; the per capita consumption expenditure was CNY33,805yuan, increasing by 6.2% over the previous year. The per capita disposable income of urban residents was CNY53,227yuan,, up by 7.1% over the previous year; the per capita consumption expenditure was CNY36,063yuan, increasing by 6.3% compared to the prior year, and the Engel's coefficient was 20.3%.

Labor and social security: As of the end of 2018, the registered urban unemployment rate was 3.84%; at the end of the year, there were 3,490 urban workers registered as unemployed. The number of people covered by old-age insurance,,unemployment insurance, work-related injury insurance, medical insurance and maternity insurance in the district increased by 5.1%, 5.7%, 5.0%, 2.8% and 7.3% respectively over the previous year. The minimum subsistence allowances were provided for all qualified urban and rural residents. The number of urban and rural residents receiving the minimum subsistence allowances reached 4,669 and 1,543 respectively, and the number of urban and rural residents living in extreme poverty was 422.
