In 2025, the number of first stores opened in Beijing surpassed 1,000 for the first time, reaching 1,068 (an 11.3-percent year-on-year increase from 2024). On average, three new first stores were opened each day, highlighting the city's strong commercial vitality and appeal.
In terms of geographic distribution, Chaoyang District houses nearly 40 percent of the new first stores, firmly maintaining its leading position. Dongcheng, Haidian, and Xicheng districts followed, forming the first tier of Beijing's first store economy with Chaoyang. In terms of commercial districts, Sanlitun, CBD, Shuangjing, Xidan Financial Street, and Wangfujing were the most favored locations for opening first stores. By consumption category, food and beverage establishments dominated, accounting for over 50 percent of the new first stores in 2025; retail stores accounted for approximately 30 percent, showing steady expansion; while service-oriented stores, though small in volume, demonstrated growing potential.
Beijing has also been approved as a pilot city for innovative consumption formats, business models, and new consumption scenarios. With continued support by policies and market innovation, the city has been enhancing the quality of consumption supply and consumer experiences, thereby injecting key momentum into the development of Beijing into a global consumption center.
