Updates on Beijing's Economic Performance: GDP up by 5.5 Percent Year-on-Year in H1 of 2025

On July 17, 2025, a press conference was hosted in Beijing to announce the details of the city's economic performance for the first half of 2025. During the first half of this year, Beijing recorded a gross domestic product (GDP) of 2.50292 trillion yuan, indicating a 5.5-percent year-on-year increase at constant prices.

In the same period, Beijing's enterprises above designated size saw their combined value-added output of industrial production grow by 7.0 percent year on year at comparable prices, up 0.2 percentage points compared with the first quarter of this year. The value added of the city's tertiary sector also recorded a 5.6-percent year-on-year increase at constant prices and, likewise, increased by 0.2 percentage points compared with the first quarter.

Investment and consumption trends were mixed. Fixed asset investment (excluding rural households) jumped by 14.1 percent year-on-year, while the overall market consumption rose by 0.9 percent. Total retail sales of consumer goods reached 673.42 billion yuan, down 3.8 percent year on year, while the service consumption increased by 4.7 percent.

On the livelihoods front, Beijing's consumer price index (CPI) fell 0.3 percent year-on-year. The city's surveyed urban unemployment rate averaged 4.1 percent, unchanged from the first quarter. The per capita disposable income reached 45,144 yuan, up 4.8 percent year-on-year (or 5.1 percent in real terms after adjusting for price changes).
