On December 4, a batch of cherries from Chile, transported via Qatar Airways, landed at Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX). This marks the first batch of imported fruit since PKX being approved as a designated port on September 27, making its official putting into service.
In the past, it usually took 26 to 28 days for cherries from Chile to enter Beijing markets, which were mostly imported via maritime transport to coastal cities, and then transported to Beijing by air or land. However, this batch of cherries, totaling 3,833 kilograms in five shipments, arrived in Beijing by air freight in just three days, significantly reducing transit time and preserving their freshness to the greatest extent possible. This will help meet the growing demand for high-quality fruit in Beijing and the surrounding areas. PKX's title of designated supervision site for imported fruits is the third such qualification, following the airport's previous designations for edible aquatic animals and plant seedlings. This further enhances PKX's role as a customs port, supports the implementation of port area planning, and contributes to the sustained improvement of Beijing's business environment. Meanwhile, PKX's application for designated supervision site for frozen and fresh seafood products is progressing steadily and is expected to undergo final inspection by the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China soon.
Next, Capital Airports Holdings will actively seek policy support to expand port functions, leverage existing airline resources and PKX's platform advantages as the designated supervision sites, to cater to market demands, diversify source portfolios, increase import channels, reduce intermediate links in circulation, curtail transit times, and effectively lower logistics costs. These moves will accelerate the gathering of high-end industries at PKX, fully utilizing the airport's pivotal role in driving high-quality development of Beijing's aviation logistics.
