The Global Innovation Index (GII) 2022 report released by the World Intellectual Property Organization shows that Beijing ranks third in the list of global top 100 science and technology clusters.
Unicorns are pioneers leading industrial transformation and boosting the innovative development of cities. They are a unique indicator reflecting the innovation capacity and strength of a city. As of today, Beijing has 102 unicorns, ranking first among Chinese cities in terms of the number and valuation of unicorns.
In the past ten years, the number of national-level high-tech enterprises in Beijing has increased from 3,300 in 2012 to 27,600 in 2021. In the city, the number of science and technology enterprises newly established per day has grown from 110 in 2015 to 270 in 2021 and the number of unicorns has surged from 40 in 2015 to 102 in 2021. Constantly increasing new start-ups are growing rapidly, developing towards "unicorns and "quasi-unicorns".
