As of now, Beijing has identified a total of 5,360 specialized, refined, differential and innovative SMEs and 588 national-level "little giants", of which 138 have received key support from central government funding. The number of national-level and key support "little giants" of Beijing ranks first among all cities in China.
Beijing's specialized, refined, differential and innovative SMEs are characterized by being highly specialized, highly focused on research and development, and distinguished by high growth. As such, more than 30 percent of the enterprises enjoy business revenue with a compound growth rate of higher than 20 percent, more than 40 percent of core technology products are oriented towards filling international and domestic gaps, more than 50 percent of core products are from key industries capable of shoring up weak spots, nearly 60 percent of enterprises' R&D expenses account for more than 10 percent of their revenue, nearly 70 percent of the enterprises have cooperation with leading enterprises in the industrial chain, nearly 80 percent of the enterprises belong to the top ten high-end, precision and sophisticated industrial fields, and nearly 90 percent of enterprises' R&D personnel account for more than 20 percent of their staff.
