Over the past five years, Beijing's economic and social development has constantly made new achievements. According to the recent data released by the Beijing Municipal Bureau Statistics, Beijing's gross regional product exceeded CNY 3 trillion in 2018 and CNY 4 trillion in 2021, achieving a jump from three to four trillion within just three years. Beijing's per capita GDP exceeded USD 20,000 in 2017 and USD 28,000 in 2021, marking an increase of 40 percent and remaining the top one among provincial regions in China.

In terms of economic structure, the added value of the services sector accounts for more than 80 percent of Beijing’s GDP; Beijing’s industries become more and more high-end, with the proportion of the digital economy in local GDP increasing from 36.3 percent in 2017 to 40.4 percent in 2021, and high-tech industries and strategic emerging industries each contributing about a quarter to local GDP (parts of those two are intertwined); and the cultural industries continue to expand with their added values weighing more than 10 percent of GDP, ranking the first nationwide.
