In 2021, the gross regional product (GRP) of the modern Beijing Metropolitan Area reached CNY 3.9 trillion, accounting for more than 40 percent of the total amount of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region.
Beijing Municipality has published the work plan to implement key tasks for the establishment of a modern metropolitan area, incorporating relevant tasks into the scheme of promoting the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region as well as the annual focuses in government's work of Beijing in the "14th Five-Year Plan" period. The work plan aims to strengthen the overall coordination and implementation of the "commuting circle", "functional circle" and "industrial circle", and ensure a targeted and organic connection between the coordinated development of various fields and the construction of a modern metropolitan area.
In 2022, while focusing on the development of the capital, Beijing Municipality will insist on integrating the "five key projects", namely, building Beijing into an international center for innovation, the "Two Zones" development, the digital economy, the supply-side structural reform and the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, into the new development paradigm. Efforts will be made to help relieve Beijing of functions non-essential for the capital and promote the coordinated development of the Xiong'an New Area and the Municipal Administrative Center. Beijing Municipality will accelerate the construction of a modern metropolitan area to achieve more in the coordinated development of such key areas as transportation, ecology, industry, and public services, etc.
