BEIJING, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Beijing has added greenery to its new municipal administrative center in Tongzhou, located in the east of the city.

A sprawling 11.2-square-km urban park is in the pipeline, and the first phase of the project is now open to the public. The section covers about 5.39 square km and was unveiled at the end of September.

The park project, Central Green, is located on the southern bank of the Grand Canal. The first phase of the project was built after a chemical factory and several dilapidated houses were relocated. It offers about 5,000 parking spaces.

The first group of key municipal-level government organs began to move their offices from Beijing's downtown area to the center in January 2019.
