
Located in the northwest of Beijing, Yanqing is known for its climate marked by cool summers and cold winters. This feature earned it the title of Beijing's "Summer Capital". The district covers a total area of 1,995 square kilometers with an average altitude exceeding 500 meters. Mountainous terrain accounts for 72.8 percent of its land. The main peak of Haituo Mountain within the district is 2,241 meters high, making it Beijing's second-highest peak.
Yanqing administers 11 towns, four townships, and three sub-district offices. As of the end of 2024, its permanent population stood at 342,000. In 2024, the district's GDP reached 25.29604 billion yuan.
Yanqing is the capital's ecological conservation and development area, which has been honored with titles such as "National Demonstrative County of Afforestation" and "National Forest City". It is widely recognized as Beijing's green barrier and back garden.
The district boasts an excellent living environment, with a forest coverage rate reaching 61.8 percent and an annual average PM2.5 concentration of 27 micrograms per cubic meter. It was the first area in Beijing to be designated as a "China's Natural Oxygen Bar".
Guishui Park in the district covers an area of 6,000 mu (400 hectares), with a water surface of 5,000 mu (about 333.33 hectares), making it the biggest water park in Beijing.
Yanqing was the hosting place of the International Horticultural Expo in 2019, and hosted part of the events of the 2022 Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics.
Today, the district is actively leveraging the legacy of the Winter Olympics and Paralympics to vigorously develop related industries like winter tourism and winter sports training, striving to drive high-quality regional economic growth and write a new chapter in the post-Winter Olympics era.
