Recently, at the Happiest Cities Forum 2024, Shijingshan District was awarded the title of "China's Happiest City 2024".

As the birthplace of modern industry in the capital of China, Shijingshan District was set up to serve the "Eight Major Factories in Western Beijing" represented by Shougang. Leveraging the opportunities presented by the preparation for the Summer and Winter Olympics and driven by the relocation of Shougang, the district took the lead in implementing the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development strategy, embarking on a path of decongestion, upgrading, and transformation.

The district has implemented two New Shougang Three-Year Action Plans and accelerated the clustering of "Sports+" and "Technology+" industries. It has built emerging industrial hubs such as the Science Fiction Industrial Cluster and the Beijing E-sports Industrial Brand Center. Major events like the China International Fair for Trade in Services, China Science Fiction Convention, and WTT China Smash have been hosted within the district's Shougang Park.

The district has orderly implemented large-scale renovation of old residential communities, leading to the forming of the "Shougang Experiences" and the "Lugu Model". It has also carried out shantytown redevelopment projects, shifting the focus from "housing security" to "livable housing".

The district has been recognized as a "National Forest City", ranking first among central districts in terms of urban green coverage rate and per capita public green space area. It is also Beijing's only district recommended to establish itself as one of the fourth batch of demonstration zones for the national public cultural service system. The district's 41,000-square-meter cultural center has fully opened to the public. It has continued to expand the availability of high-quality educational resources, and has built three schools during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, adding 5,730 student quotas. Also, the district has increased the provision of elderly care services at multiple levels, intensified the pilot program for long-term care insurance, and has been recognized as a "National Sanitary District" five times.

The survey and selection of the "Happiest Cities" in China are conducted by Oriental Outlook, a weekly magazine of Xinhua News Agency. The survey and selection have been conducted for 18 consecutive years. This year's survey and selection focused on the theme "Reform and Innovation, Making Urban Life Happier", engaging urban residents as participants, highlighting the building of a people-centered city and joint creation of a happy life. A survey has been made on the sense of gain, happiness, and security among the people in Chinese cities during the modernization process, presenting the innovative measures and significant achievements of Chinese cities in improving people's well-being.
