Beijing Bell and Drum Tower, originally built during the Yuan Dynasty, have a history of over 700 years, having been constructed from the 9th year of the Yuan Dynasty (1272). They served as the timekeeping centers during the Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties. The construction of the Bell Tower and Drum Tower is closely linked to the development of the ancient capital city and they are symbolic of the city’s central axis.
