The Chinese National Museum of Ethnology is a state-level ethnological museum established to uphold national unity and ethnic solidarity, with the aim to restore, protect, study and exploit the cultural heritage items of various ethnic groups of China. It has restored a large collection of ethnic cultural relics, recorded a series of TV specials and stock photos, held various cultural exhibitions in China and other countries, and engaged in the publication of academic books and other related research articles.

The museum's "Colorful China" program, which incorporates the theme of Chinese ethnic costume culture, is one of the key cultural exchange projects of China. It has been carried out abroad multiple times with a huge impact on the international community. The Cooperative Network for Chinese Ethnological Museums, established under the auspices of the Chinese National Museum of Ethnology, pioneers a new development model for Chinese museums, with 40 registered ethnological museums from 19 provinces and municipalities across the country.
