The O'Stella Pasta Lab recently opened its first store in China at 4 Gongmenkou Xicha Hutong, in the Baitasi (White Dagoba Temple) neighborhood of Xicheng District.
Tucked away deep in a hutong, this 100+ square-meter space is thoughtfully divided into multiple dining areas, including a small open-air courtyard. A highlight is the view of the White Dagoba and the azure sky, visible from both indoor and outdoor seating. The menu features a wide selection of pasta—from pappardelle and tagliatelle to lasagna and macaroni—paired with rich sauces like tomato, cream, and seafood. The main courses and desserts are equally appetizing.
When asked why they chose the Baitasi neighborhood, the owner explained that Gongmenkou Dongcha and Xicha Hutongs are beloved by both locals and tourists. The owner has a long-standing love for Beijing's hutongs and has consistently chosen hutong locations for their outlets in the city. Additionally, the neighborhood operator provides reliable, high-quality services for businesses and has selected premium brands for the area to maintain its distinctive character, while avoiding the oversaturation of similar businesses in niche markets.
More first stores are set to open in Baitasi in the near future. Meanwhile, establishments such as Eryouju and Pinwei Yangtang have either completed or are undergoing renovations.
Since 2020, Xicheng has been revitalizing the Gongmenkou Dongcha and Xicha Hutongs with a focus on heritage preservation. Beyond infrastructure upgrades, the renewal has also introduced distinctive, trendy, and iconic dining and cultural businesses—turning the area into a popular destination where visitors can experience Beijing's unique hutong history and culture.
