The 38th Beijing Daxing Watermelon Festival and Watermelon Town Summer Carnival kicked off on May 23.

Based on its traditional "town fair", this year's session has been revamped with an upgraded watermelon-themed bazaar. Every day from 9:00 to 21:00, visitors can taste the sweetness of the season's first watermelons from Panggezhuang, shop for flowers, and bring their lovely pets along to take photos and meet other furry friends.

As night falls, the celebration is transformed into a nighttime beer and food carnival, attended by leading brands from around the world, such as Yanjing Beer and RUHR Brewing. The Panggezhuang watermelon-flavored beer has also made its debut at this event. More than 140 catering brands and specialty booths will offer everything from Black Pearl-rated fine dining and the regional cuisines of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei to creative offerings on time-honored brands, light bites, and trendy snacks.

Free handicraft workshops are scheduled every afternoon, focusing on the elements of the southern section of the Beijing Central Axis. At night, live bands, world music performances, and artistic performances jointly presented by artists from Beijing and Inner Mongolia will keep the summer vibes going on longer and deeper.

The whole event will run until May 31. Visitors heading to the Watermelon Town in Panggezhuang can navigate to "小镇大集" (literally "Town Fair") for free parking.
