The 2026 New Year's Day Sunrise Viewing and Blessing Ceremony at the Mutianyu Great Wall will be held on January 1, 2026.
This event will feature four major highlights to create an integrated experience that blends traditions and modernity and culture and interaction. As part of the intangible cultural heritage program, Jinglei Dragon Dance Troupe, which consists of performers with disabilities from Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, will present a powerful dance performance celebrating life and vitality. A renowned photographer has been specially invited to capture memorable moments of visitors with the Great Wall and the festive atmosphere.
In a cross-city collaboration with the Shanghai Tower, giant screens in both cities will livestream the first sunrise of the New Year. Additionally, the "Celebrate the Chinese New Year in Huairou" Winter Cultural and Tourism Launch Event and a themed market will be held, bringing together specialty stalls and exciting performances while collaborating with the winter sports and folk culture interaction events nearby, to offer a one-stop New Year holiday travel plan.
On the New Year's Day, the scenic area will open early at 5:00. Visitors can greet the first light of 2026 atop the Great Wall, enjoy intangible cultural heritage performances such as dragon and lion dances and Huangmei Opera, and participate in a series of New Year celebration activities including those involving a staff worker dressed like the Fortune God distributes blessings, interactive light-and-shadow photo spots, and a graffiti wall for making wishes. Visitors will also each receive a souvenir exclusive to the Year of the Horse and enjoy free hot drinks.
