As the New Year approaches, nearly 100 cinemas across Beijing will extend their operating hours on New Year's Eve, offering a wide range of activities and discounts to help audiences see in the New Year.
Discounts for New Year's Eve Moviegoers
Nearly 100 cinemas in Beijing will remain open until the early hours — or even around the clock — on New Year's Eve. More than a dozen key cinemas, including Jackie Chan Cinema (Wukesong branch) in Haidian District and StarX Cinema (Xiangyun Town branch) in Shunyi District, will not close at all, screening films continuously through the night. Cinemas such as Capital Cinema and the China Film Archive will introduce "New Year's Eve marathon passes," allowing audiences to watch multiple films in a row with a single ticket.
Moviegoers celebrating New Year's Eve can enjoy multiple special offers. Poly International Cinemas and others are launching exclusive New Year's Eve promotions, including couples' ticket packages, bonus gifts for member top-ups, and lucky draws. Meanwhile, ticketing platforms Maoyan and Taopiaopiao will provide movie subsidies. From 00:00 to 24:00 on January 1, users can search for the "Beijing Fan'er" (北京范儿) mini program on WeChat, tap the animated "Bell and Drum Chimes" screen, and enter the Maoyan and Taopiaopiao discount zones to claim movie coupons.
In addition, many cinemas are partnering with nearby commercial complexes. By presenting a same-day movie ticket, audiences can enjoy exclusive discounts or complimentary gifts at designated dining and retail outlets. Capital Cinema (Xidan branch) and StarX Cinema (Xiangyun Town, Shunyi) have launched ticket-stub promotions, allowing viewers to receive discounts at selected stores or participate in prize draws to win shopping vouchers.
A Lineup of New Releases and "Exclusive" Screenings
A number of new films with diverse themes and distinctive styles will debut during the 2026 New Year holiday season, including Every Dog Has Its Day, The Fire Raven, Escape From The Outland, and The Reunion Journey.
Beyond these mainstream releases, many cinemas are offering exclusive screenings. The Beijing New Film Union will present a classic New Year film retrospective, featuring beloved titles such as Be There or Be Square and YOLO, screened from the evening of December 31 at 14 cinemas under the Beijing New Film Union. The China National Film Museum will host a public-interest film program titled Farewell to the Old Year Through Light and Shadow, Welcome the New with Comedy, showcasing 33 classic comedy films produced between 1950 and 1999. Meanwhile, the China Film Archive Art Cinema will launch "Double Feature Highlights: New Year's Eve Special Screenings", paying tribute to the art of cinema with classics such as Pride & Prejudice (2005, 4K) and Inglourious Basterds (2009).
