Some streetlight poles in Beijing have just been equipped with shared power banks and wireless charging devices, allowing every one to charge their mobile phones there directly. The costs of using these charging facilities are relatively low, with some even being free of charge.

According to the construction company concerned, the current challenges of shared power banks in the city include uneven distribution and limited accessibility. To address these problems, the company has collaborated with power bank manufacturers to develop waterproof, fireproof, and high-temperature-resistant smart power banks. These are mounted on smart streetlight poles, making them easily accessible to passers-by.

Inside Yingxu Lane, Daxing District, streetlight poles equipped with charging facilities have already been installed. Third-party-operated power bank cabinets are available at the base of these poles. Scan a QR code on a cabinet, and you will receive a prompt telling you a power bank costs CNY 3 per hour, CNY 1 cheaper than similar ones available in nearby malls.

Also, at the northwest corner of the intersection of Beiqiaowan Street and along East Zhushikou North Road in Dongcheng District, you'll find streetlight poles with wireless charging devices. You can charge your phones for free by simply placing them on any of such devices, with no additional steps required.

In addition to phone charging services, the eastern section of Jingmi North Road has introduced the city's very first streetlight charging stations, which include eight slow-charging and two fast-charging stations. Beijing has now officially released its Guidelines for Construction and Management of Multifunctional Poles, giving green light to the installation of USB ports for charging, emergency call buttons, touchscreens, and other devices on streetlight poles at heights below 2.5 meters.
