On December 4, the launch ceremony of the 2023-2024 Beijing Ice and Snow Sports Consumption Season was held at the National Speed Skating Oval ("Ice Ribbon"). The ceremony highlighted the plans for launching winter carnivals and creating popular winter sports destinations in iconic locations such as the National Stadium ("Bird's Nest"), the National Speed Skating Oval, the Summer Palace, Beihai Park, Taoranting Park, Zizhuyuan Park, Yuyuantan Park, Nanshan Ski Resort.
Themed "Embrace the Ice and Snow – Let's GO", the season this year is jointly hosted by Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports, Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, Beijing Municipal Forestry and Parks Bureau, and Chaoyang District People's Government of Beijing Municipality. It will run until the end of February 2024.
It is reported that five major municipal parks, namely Beihai Park, the Summer Palace, Zizhuyuan Park, Taoranting Park, and Yuyuantan Park will actively participate in the season. The total area used for winter sports activities, which will be gradually rolled out from late December, will exceed 1 million square meters.
Compared with its previous year's edition, this season, leveraging regional advantages in ice and snow resources, also features five sub-venues in Chaoyang, Changping, Pinggu, Miyun, and Yanqing districts.
