The Koziol lab is seeking a highly motivated individual interested in applying bioinformatics and computational tools to address fundamental questions in biology related to novel DNA and RNA modifications using different high-throughput sequencing technologies.

The successful candidate will use computational tools to analyze different high-throughput sequencing data and will work closely with multiple lab members in a team.

We encourage experienced and non-experienced bioinformaticians / computational biologists who are interested in high-throughput sequencing tools to apply. For less-experienced applicants, learning opportunities will be provided. No prior knowledge in molecular biology, DNA and RNA modifications or brain research is required.

OUR RESEARCH & LAB

The Koziol lab is combining the newest and different high-throughput sequencing technologies to identify, characterize and study the function of DNA and RNA modifications. Our previous work has successfully identified a novel modification in mammalian cells and widened the field of epigenetics. Our lab uses cell lines and mouse animal models, and we combine molecular biology, different high-throughput sequencing technologies and state-of-the-art mass spectrometry to study DNA and RNA modifications. We focus now on the brain, where many modifications seem to be particularly abundant and of functional importance.

Although we are based in Beijing, China, we are an international lab, in a world-class internationally oriented research institute, with a collaborative, interactive and dynamic team. Our working language is English and Chinese. We are generously core funded, have the newest and state-of-the-art equipment and technologies and benefit from our collaborations with China’s top universities and industries. Our lab is strongly supported by our in-house core facilities, such as a bioinformatics group, mass spectrometry, FACS, imaging, genetic, viral, instrumentation, animal, animal behavior and medicinal chemistry core facilities. For more information about us visit www.DNALaboratory.org.

BENEFITS

Salary is negotiable according to experience and qualifications. Generous benefits will be provided, such as social security, housing fund, comprehensive medical insurance, annual health check, annual leave. Further on the job training can be provided. We have strong administrative support who assist with finding apartments, visas and other personal matters.

REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION

The candidate must have or is about to obtain a Master degree in a relevant field, such as Bioinformatics, Informatics, Computational Biology, Biology or other related fields. Candidates are required to have some coding knowledge, be highly motivated, diligent and be able to work as part of a team on different projects.

We encourage experienced and non-experienced bioinformaticians / computational biologists who are interested in high-throughput sequencing tools to apply. For less-experienced applicants, learning opportunities will be provided. No prior knowledge in molecular biology, DNA and RNA modifications or brain research is required. The candidate is expected to be able to read English publications, although no fluency in speaking is required as this will improve on the job.

We always welcome applications from highly motivated and talented bioinformaticians/computational biologists who would like to later transition into one of our PhD programs, as our previous lab members have accomplished.

Knowledge of R for statistical analysis and Python for scripting is an advantage. Experience in data analysis from the Illumina sequencing platform, ChIP-Seq, RNA-Seq, single cell RNA-seq, PacBio/SMRT-Seq data analysis is a plus.

To apply, please send a cover letter and CV with the email contact information of 2 professional references to Dr. Magdalena Koziol (mjk@cibr.ac.cn) and to Xue Liang (xueliang@cibr.ac.cn).

INSTITUTE

The Chinese Institute for Brain Research, CIBR, is a world-class research institute with the aim to address fundamental unanswered questions related the brain. Research areas cover neurobiology, molecular biology, computational science and clinical studies. In parallel, CIBR stives to transform novel discoveries into clinical solutions to improve human health. CIBR is exceptionally funded, has the newest state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, strong administrative and core facility support. CIBR works in close collaboration with other top institutions, such as with other China’s top Universities. Since CIBR is located within Beijing’s Life Science Park, which is currently expanding to become the world’s largest Life Science Center, CIBR works in close collaboration within this dynamic and vibrant network, such as with the National Institute for Biological Sciences NIBS, local hospitals, national and international biotech and pharmaceutical companies.
