Located within the Beijing Botanical Garden, the Cao Xueqin Memorial Hall at Huangye Village was founded in 1984 as China's first memorial hall dedicated to Cao Xueqin. The memorial consists of four exhibition halls covering sections including: the old house of the Plain White Banner, the origin of the memorial, Cao's family background, Cao Xueqin's life, and his enduring literary legacy. It comprehensively presents his legendary life and the far-reaching influence of the Dream of the Red Chamber. The courtyard is simple and tranquil, representing the only preserved Qing Dynasty barracks-style building in Beijing. In addition, the site preserves historical features such as ancient locust trees, river walls, ancient wells, and more than a dozen stone inscriptions dating from the Ming and Qing dynasties.
