As China's first professional museum focusing on the history of the country's foreign trade and economic cooperation, this museum consists of five thematic sections: "Sailing to World" (梯航万国), "A Century of Vicissitudes" (百年沧桑), "Breaking Ice and Forging Ahead" (破冰突围), "Great Transformation" (伟大变革) and "Marching Toward Rejuvenation" (走向复兴). It exhibits more than 180 historical pictures and over 1,000 historical documents and cultural relics (including individual exhibits and sets) from various periods, showcasing the prosperity of China's foreign trade and economic cooperation in ancient times, the vicissitudes of the modern era, as well as the breakthroughs and great transformation following the founding of the People's Republic of China. The timeline starts at the Western Han Dynasty, when Zhang Qian journeyed to the Western Regions (Xiyu) and helped initiate early exchanges via the Silk Road.
