On December 23, the annual report Tsinghua Urban Health Index 2025 was released, following a "health check" of cities, which was conducted across six aspects (health services, health properties, health acts, health institutions, health environment, and health reactions). The results show that Beijing has dominated nationwide for two consecutive years now, with clear advantages in areas such as the level of its medical services and the informatization of its healthcare sector.
Beijing stands as "China's Healthiest City", ranking first nationwide in three aspects: health services, health properties, and health acts. This is in part due to Beijing offering clear advantages in terms of patents in its healthcare sector, new drug R&D capabilities, and per capita consumption of healthcare and sports goods, among others.
Facing the trend of deep integration of the digital economy, the sports economy, and urban development, the 2025 report innovatively evaluates the current development status of cities in areas such as "winter sports". The results indicate that Beijing's comprehensive performance in winter sports has reached a leading position in China.
The report covers 296 participating cities in China. Using "urban permanent population of 1 million" as the threshold, the cities involved were categorized into large cities and small-to-medium cities.
A benchmarking analysis of 36 international metropolises around the world was also conducted across various aspects, such as medical services, living behaviors, urban greening, environmental quality, and health outcomes. Chinese cities have demonstrated growing global competitiveness in multiple health-related aspects, showing distinct advantages especially in health outcomes, medical services, and urban greening. Specifically, Beijing has entered the global top five cities for its medical services.
