If you would like to apply for Personal Affairs Residence Permits and Extensions, please follow the steps below.
The foreign family members of foreigners residing in Beijing for the purposes of work or study.
► Foreign nationals of Chinese origin who are over 60 years old and who have purchased residential property in Beijing.
► Foreign nationals who intend to receive medical aid or services, or to engage in any other private business in Beijing.

► A valid passport or other international travel documents.
► A completed, printed, and signed (in black ink) VISA/ STAY PERMIT/ RESIDENCE PERMIT APPLICATION FORM, affixed with a recent passport-style photo (full-faced and bareheaded against a white background, color print, two inches, half-length).
► A valid accommodation registration form obtained from the applicant's current hotel or local police station.
► Those who are visiting their family members in Beijing must submit the following documents:
a. The valid travel documents of the foreigner residing in Beijing
b. A certificate of familial relation or kinship
i. S1 and S2 visa holders must provide a certificate letter from the family member in Beijing to prove their familial relationship, along with supporting documents such as a marriage certificate, birth certificate (or equivalent document), notarial deed, and other relevant supportive documents on their family relationship or kinship.
ii. Non-S1 or S2 visa holders must provide supportive documents on familial relationship or kinship, such as a marriage certificate, birth certificate (or equivalent document), or notarial deed. (These documents issued by foreign authorities or notary offices need to be authenticated by the Chinese embassy or consulate in the relevant country).
Note: If one or more of the above documents cannot be provided, the applicant may voluntarily provide other relevant supporting documents.
► Foreign nationals of Chinese origin who have purchased property in Beijing must submit:
a. The ownership certificate of the property registered under the applicant's name or a notarized house sales contract.
b. A certificate of deposit or bank statement.
► Foreigners who intend to receive medical aid or services in Beijing must submit a proof of hospitalization or medical services for over six months issued by a medical institute above the county-level or of 2A-class.
► Applicants who are aged above 18 and are applying for a residence permit with a validity of more than one year must provide a Certificate of Health Examination for Overseas Personnelissued by an immigration inspection and quarantine institution in China. The abovementioned health certificate is valid for six months from its date of issuance.

The entire process from submission of materials to pick-up will take seven working days.
The fee for a residence permit with a validity of less than one year is 400 yuan (per applicant).
The fee for a residence permit with one to three years' validity (including one year, not including three years) is 800 yuan (per applicant).
The fee for a residence permit with three to five years' validity is 1,000 yuan (per applicant).
1. Where visas held by foreigners specify that foreigners need to apply for residence permits after entry, such foreigners must do so within 30 days of their date of entry.
2. Foreigners residing in China who apply for an extension to the duration of residence must file their applications at least 30 days prior to the end of the validity period for their residence permits.
3. During the period when the applicant's passport or other travel document is under the legal custody of the exit-entry authority for the issuance of a visa or resident permit, the applicant may, bearing the ticket for their submitted application, travel and reside legally within the territory of China.
4. If any information submitted when applying for a foreigner's residence permit has changed ( such as the bearer's name, sex, date of birth, reason for residence, residence duration, date and place of issuance, passport number, or other international travel documents' numbers), the bearer of the permit must, within 10 days of the date of change, apply to the exit-entry administration (at or above the county level) in their place of residence to initiate the formalities for alteration.
5. The exit and entry administration may verify the purpose of application through such means as interviews, telephone inquiries, and on-the-ground investigation. The applicant as well as the entity or individual that has provided the letter of invitation or certification documents must cooperate with such activities.
6. Decisions made by the exit-entry administration—including rejecting applications for extension or reissuance of an ordinary visa, or not issuing foreigners' stay or residence permits, or not extending the duration of residence—are final.
The right to interpret these instructions resides with the Exit-Entry Administration of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau.
1. The applicant must go through a face-to-face interview. However, for youth or elderly applicants (under 16 or above 60) and for those with limited ability to travel due to a disability, the host organization, a family member of the applicant, or a specialized service agency may submit the application for a residence permit or extension on behalf of the applicant (in which case a copy of the trustee's ID is required). Nonetheless, if the Exit-Entry Administration notifies the applicant that an interview is necessary, the applicant still must go through the interview themselves.
2. For the above-stated application materials, the original documents need to be verified, and photocopies submitted along with the originals.
3. Any application material in a foreign language (other than English) must be translated into Chinese.
4. Applicants who have not yet nullified their household registrations in China should wait to apply until after they have done so.
5. Foreigners under 18 years of age submitting an application for the first time in China must prepare their birth certificate or an equivalent document, as well as the passports and permanent resident permits of their parents or other relatives' documents as certification of nationality.

If any of the following information has changed: name, sex, date of birth, reason for residence, length of stay, date of issue, place of issue, passport or other international travel document number—you must apply to your local exit-entry administration (at or above county level) for changes to your residence permit within ten days from the date of the change.
