On April 16, the Blossoms in Beijing - 2026 Beijing Peony Culture Festival opened at Taiyanggong Park in Chaoyang District. This year's edition is also taking place at 12 other key parks across the city, including Zhongshan Park and Jingshan Park. Running through May, the event period will be extended to early summer at some venues. In total, more than 1,300 varieties of peonies are on display across the city, with over 200,000 plants across a total exhibition area of nearly 400,000 square meters, covering nine major color series and 10 types.
This year, the participating parks have optimized their floral arrangements and tour offerings for visitors. By pairing different types of peonies according to their flowering periods and interplanting peonies with herbaceous peonies and other flowers, the staff workers there aim to create phased blooming patterns. A variety of eco-cultural activities are also scheduled at all venues, including cultural exhibitions, intangible cultural heritage-based activities, scientific education and study tours, and leisure and consumption campaigns, improving the overall visit experience.
As the main venue, Taiyanggong Park boasts more than 53,000 plants of over 40 classic varieties, including several century-old peony trees, fully demonstrating the capacity of holding a large-scale showcase of peonies, which is unique to urban parks.
The other 12 venues are: Yuanmingyuan Ruins Park, Zhongshan Park, Jingshan Park, the China National Botanical Garden, the Beijing Expo Park, Xishan National Forest Park, Lianhuachi Park, Huaxiang Park, Beigong National Forest Park, the Canal Peony Garden in Tongzhou, Changping Park, and Guose Peony Garden in Yanqing.
