On December 7, two immersive exploration exhibitions, titled respectively "Birth of Civilizations" and "Sanxingdui Adventure", officially opened at the China Science and Technology Museum. Through new technologies, these exhibitions present ancient civilizations in a vivid and engaging manner.
The exhibition area features the cultural heritage of five renowned civilizations, presented along a timeline that connects the sub-areas featuring respectively Liangzhu, Taosi, Erlitou, Sanxingdui, and Yin ruins together. Meanwhile, through modern technologies, the exhibition recreates the grandeur of the era when Chinese civilization emerged, blending the exhibition, inheritance, and science education into one cohesive experience.
In the two main VR areas of the exhibitions, visitors can embark on a journey through time and space by putting on VR glasses. The "Birth of Civilizations" VR immersive exploration exhibition takes the visitors into the historical legend through vivid stories, while the "Sanxingdui Adventure" VR immersive exhibition offers visitors chances to immersively explore the ancient Shu culture.
The exhibition areas utilize modern digital technologies to introduce visitors to cultural relics in a novel way. Visitors can also discover the unique charms of the "cross-border" fusion of Sanxingdui masks and different art elements, such as blue and white porcelain, cyberpunk, and Lego. The exhibition has created a study area, especially for young visitors, where they can engage in activities like intelligent painting.
The exhibition is expected to be on display at the China Science and Technology Museum until the end of February 2025, after which it will start a nationwide tour.
