Luxian Ancient City Archaeological Site lies just north of the administrative office area of the Beijing Municipal Administrative Center.
Built upon the site of the Han dynasty Luxian Ancient City, it is a large-scale archaeological site composed of the inner-city site area, the suburban site area, and the extramural burial area. Luxian Ancient City Archaeological Site Park covers a total of 113 hectares, with 68 hectares currently open to visitors. A protective soil layer about one meter thick covers the site, and the park is designed as an ''open excavation'' model, where archaeological work continues while parts of the discovery are presented to the public.
Drawing on evidence from excavations and historical records, the park has created 15 themed viewpoints that help visitors imagine everyday life in the county town during the Han dynasty. Together, they highlight the site's overall layout and aim to recreate the authentic, plain, and open atmosphere of a frontier county seat from that period.
Luxian Ancient City Archaeological Site Museum is located in the southeastern part of the park and has a main building area of approximately 15,000 square meters. It mainly consists of six parts: the basic exhibition hall, the site exhibition hall, the temporary exhibition hall, the immersive exhibition area, the archaeological experience space, and a cultural corridor, which together showcase unearthed artifacts and the original appearance of the excavation site.
